Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Don't use a regular light for heat!

Lizard lamps come in different watts and colors.  I have never had a problem with red lights/heat lamps in the 46 years of raising poultry and neither have other family members or friends.  In fact I had better get out now it is up 38 out.  I have to redo all the extension cords; I replace part of them every year and check the newer ones over.  Time to get the heat lamps ready to use along with the water heater bases.  Way better to do it now than when it is -5 with the wind chill.  I used to use the ceramic heat bulbs, but the one problem I had with them is that when I used the ones with 250 watt, they consistently melted and broke just below the metal part that screws into the fixture, the sparks were flying and after trying several times with the same results, I gave up on those, I only had one that lasted me for a whole winter and it worked great, no light output but lots of heat. I wonder if there are any brands of those that would not have this problem, but I tried two different kinds and both had the same problem.
