[CHICKENS-101] Re: Don't use a regular light for heat!

Years ago I did a ton of research on color effects on animals before choosing the color of "night"light to put up in their shelters...........and later, chicken coop as well.  Red was the one color advised to stay away from because it had an "exciting" effect on them.......whether it was infuriation-'excitement'
(think about bulls), or other stimulation-'excitement'.
Consequently, I have a green (blue works too) floodlight bulb to keep my chickens warm at night but not keep them up & awake or "excite" them in any way.  Way cheaper to run than a heat-lamp and seems to work just as well.

Hello!  It's been so cold here I wanted to keep my girls combs from freezing so I put a light bulb in there house, not a big one.  I was wondering if they slept okay with the constant light.  I got my answer when I went out.  One of my hens is running around with the back of her head all pecked and bloody.  So much for keeping the chickens up all night.

They didn't do well with the red light either.  Three of them would not go into the house at night.

I have a sealed whelping box heater in the now. I hope it does some good.

Maybe I should just leave them alone?
