[CHICKENS-101] Re: Egg Care Question

I'd like to get my 2 cents in here. If you are going to use the eggs in a few days. Wash them in water slightly warmer than the eggs. Remember once you wash the bloom off the egg it is very porous so be careful what you wash it in. The egg will become stale a lot quicker than unwashed eggs. So if you are going to keep them for a couple weeks wash them just before you use them. They should be refrigerated after washing. Eggs that are really yucky go to the dog or the compost. The best thing you can do is keep the nest box clean. This can be a pain if they sleep in the box like Silkies.
On a different note, Yesterday I got my first green egg from my 4 Easter eggers. close to 25 weeks. So much for 16 to 20 weeks. Every time I think know what I'm talking about these dumb chickens make me look like a idiot. The Silkie chicks at 19 weeks still look like babies. I still haven't decided if the 2 splash are roosters or pullets.
