Re: [CHICKENS-101] Sick chickens..plez help!

No vet training here, nor medical knowledge of any type really, so I wouldn't know what it is or where it might have come from.  I will throw out some questions about conditions however, in case it might help.

Do you wash your chicken's waterers daily?  Every day they should be washed, as back flow occurs and they get slimy quickly.  I keep a stiff dishwasher brush at my water station and scrub the edges, plus running my hand over all the plastic parts till they feel normal.  In this heat, stuff grows quickly.

What about feed?  Do you dump the chaff each time you fill them?  A wet molding area could be covered with dry chaff and you don't know if you don't dump daily.

How about the surface your chickens are on?  Is their area free of ammonia build up from feces?  Do they have an acceptable amount of space per chicken?  More space per chicken is always better.  What are their quarters like?  A hen house and a run?  How large are each of those?

What other creatures might they be exposed to?  Some people keep pigs, which I personally feel is a bad combination if the chickens have any access to the swine quarters.t

What are you feeding your chickens, and what other animal feed might they have the opportunity to snack from?

I posted this yesterday, but no one has answered yet... I am trying to figure out what my chickens might have, and what I should do. I have 20 chickens, and about 7 of them, maybe more, have watery eyes. I have 2 that are pretty bad, more mucusy and almost closed.. which looks ike conjuntivitis. But these that are really bad are also listless, just sleeping a lot. I have the real bad ones seperated from the rest. I am giving everyone Duromyacin-10.
Do you think that is about all I can do? I am not sure what else to do. If it is a simple virus.. won't this alone take care of it?
Thanks, Jen
