White feathers become "brassy" looking when exposed to sunlight and judges frown on that.

Carolyn, Why no sun? My white silkies play in the sun and eat corn. The golden gene silkies tend to have a light yellowish cast to them compared to the silver gene whites; they faintly it that whether they are in the sun or not. What breed of white chickens did you get? Cathryn
I got some white birds and decided to show them so they weren't allowed corn (or sunlight). There is no chicken feed without corn so I started making my own. One of my protein sources is milk. I set aside some of the evening milking and throw in some of the probotics the goats get and in the morning I have yughurt.I have Nubians with high butter fat but not as high as your NDs. The chickens love it, not so much the waterfowl.Carolyn
