Hi everyone! Just wanted to drop a quick note to say that the chicken camping trip went great! The brooder tote fit perfect into the big deep trunk well in the back of the minivan so they had a safe trip there. Once at the site, they got a place of honor at our breakfast nook inside the camper and stayed there for the duration. Heat lamp was put on as needed and they showed no signs of being stressed. They were actually much easier to take camping than a dog! Thanks to the people who let me know shavings are okay - we had no smell issues at all.
Chicks are now happily housed in the **official** brooder - a very cute wooden / hardware cloth crate thing my husband made. It is very big and will house them quite comfortably until it is time to move them into the coop. It has a plywood bottom, and one solid wall and then 3 walls of hardware cloth. The top is hardware cloth with a wood frame door built in. I'll post pics when I get a chance :)
