Re: [CHICKENS-101] Silkies can't be trusted

Take one back into the house and it should tame right up.  It will get used to you walking around it and stepping over it, picking it up, petting it as you go by.  Just make sure to keep it where you can clean up after it constantly.  No sitting on the sofa!

As soon as that one is tame, take it out and bring another one in.  My Polish get picked up and held all the time, the other 3 breeds in the house coops, not so much.

Sheryl, there is ALWAYS room for JUST ONE MORE!

Shoot, Georgia.  I already have 19 and wish I hadn't gotten so many so I could tame some of them.  I can pick Suzette up and she doesn't fuss too much but all the rest of them (especially the leghorns) aren't into the touch me/hold me stuff.  Wonky and Suzette are the only ones that I know who they are.  Wonky is the Ameraucana with the wonky beak.  Suzette is the Black Star that got injured and I nursed her back to health.  I'm pretty sure her ordeal left her blind in one eye because she will walk in circles sometimes, but she eats/drinks/mixes with the others just fine.  She hasn't gotten enough confidence to get on the roosts yet but she's a real trooper.

The leghorns remind me of the ones that someone said would rather break their necks running into a fence than let me touch them.  Funny thing is that they will get on the roosts and walk just close enough to me to tease me but not let me catch them.  Had I known they were so people resistant, they would have stayed at the feed/seed store but they were so darned cute as babies.
