They last ok if you linseed oil them soundly before you put them together.  I have two pet store rabbit hutches that have withstood the elements because I keep them oiled.  Keep the legs up on bricks or wood bricks to keep them from rotting.  The trays rust easily, you have to keep them oiled; I use motor oil.
