Chickens take a good deal of inbreeding. If you breed chicks from a breeder to other chicks from the same order you can breed their offspring to other chickens from that same order the next year. The more roos and hens in the flock the longer you can keep on breeding the offspring of the flock. I maintained a family for over 20 years without adding any new blood with no major problems. I started with a cock and a hen in '81 and in '85 I bred in some more blood from another cock. That was it for 20 years.
