Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Thinking of getting chickens

I'd build a coop from scratch or get a kit before doing all that extra work.  You can buy a kit building from Lowes or Home Depot, or from an independent dealer who will deliver it all set up.

Chickens are a WONDERFUL addition to life, so don't worry about the hubs, he will come around as soon as he sees how much fun having chickens is.

What breeds are you thinking of?  I'm getting Polish, Orloff, Spitzhauben and Brabanters in April, and Guineas and OEGB's in June.

What's stopping me? Well, I'm still learning. Besides that, the shed is in my husband's scrap yard and it will have to be moved -- no small task. Today my daughters and I started clearing the area where we want to put it. We still have some brush that needs clearing there. Next, we will have to back-fill to make the area level, then my husband will have to move the shed and modify it for chickens (maybe add a window and one of those little chicken doors). Have I mentioned that my husband is not entirely enthusiastic about this whole chicken thing?
Even though I'm anxious to get the hens, it isn't something that I can jump right in on. So for now, I'm in education and prepare mode.
