Some hens will never get broody. They have had it bred out of them. Most people say there is no way to make a hen set on eggs if she is not in the mood. If you want to experiment though, you could try this. In one of the nests than your hen uses for laying eggs, but several eggs or egg-shaped objects. They could even be those plastic easter eggs you can get this time of year. The reasoning is that the hen will see the nest full of eggs and this will trigger her hormones to indicate that there is a "full clutch" that needs to be incubated rather than laying more eggs.

I have a rooster that I am going to get rid of. I would like to get some chicks before he goes. What causes a Hen to want to set on eggs? I have watched my hens for a while and keep hoping that one will start setting but so far none have. Is there any trick to get them to set on the eggs? Thank you.
