Gina, I did 7 years of new born diapers on 3 males rescues. They'd mess outside but come in to pee. Never again. Diapees off, diappees on, diapees off,... I made them stay outside with all day on a lead with me, when it was nice out. Never, ever, again. Cath
Well, I have three chihuahuas and one miniature pinsher. The min pin is fine in the house and will only go inside if she can't get out. (Like I forget to take the cover off the doggie door) My one rescue I raised from a pup and he is really good unless the weather is really bad. The other two chis I got when they were 3 1/2 and had never been out of a crate. One is pretty good about using the puppy pads the other won't go anywhere you want him to, he just goes wherever.
Luckily I took the carpet out of the main part of the house because there was wood under it and now life is easier. I still put puppy pads down but if the happen to go on the floor it's an easy cleanup. They also use the throw rugs as peepee pads but they are easy to wash. Small dogs are just really bad about being potty trained, especially if you get them as older dogs. We have rain almost every day in winter and at least once a week in summer and they don't like the wet.
Gina :-)
