Re: [CHICKENS-101] Another duck question

First off ... we allow discussions about ducks, turkeys and other feathered fowl.  Now about your question ... it is not an issue unless you are breeding for certain traits or trying to get rid of a bad trait and the male has it.  Drakes are viable for many generations so father/ daughter ... son / mother combos are common.

Sorry to post this to the chicken site, but I noticed a lot of talk about ducks on here already and thought someone might be able to answer my questions. We have 4 Pekin ducks, 3 females and 1 drake and we have one mallard female. Father drake and mother mallard had 12 babies the end of August which has now given us a grand total of 17 ducks. 10 of the 12 are mostly black with some white around their bills and on their necks and chest, the two others are all white. It appears that we only got 2 drakes out of this brood which is good. We now have 3 drakes and 14 females. My question is this, father has started mating with his daughters and we aren't sure if this is something that is "acceptable" in the duck world or if we need to do something. Will they have strange babies if they hatch? What could the outcome be? We are pretty new to this duck thing and were completely caught off guard when the mother hatched all 12 of her eggs. We didn't think she would actually hatch anything! Sorry for the long explanation. I feel dumb asking this but I have no idea what we could be in for. We have 16 acres that they roam around on with a "duck condo" that they are kept in at night and our pond is a little over an acre. They are all in good health and seem happy and healthy.
