Re: [CHICKENS-101] BARF.........including chicken!

> I guess we're lucky there. We just have one dog and his favorite is
chicken. So all we have to get is a couple of 5-10 lb bags here and there
and we pay anywhere from .49-.89 per lb depending on the cuts and/or the
sales.

be careful some of the chicken in the stores like the Walmart 10 lbs bags
are injected with a good amount of salt water, I think it says on there up
to 5 % or so of the weight could be just injected salt water

Re: [CHICKENS-101] RE: OT - Surprise - Georgia

You want me to take pictures of keets after working 12.5 hrs of meetings, packing and sorting, an hour of feeding and watering, and  open house?  All in one day???
http://www.guineafowlinternational.org/colorchart/
I'll work on it asap. .
Upper right hand corner, only mine are cuter. Looks like mine are pearl gray and I have no idea what the solid brown ones are.  They sure know who their mommas and poppas are!!  I have NN's everywhere!  They are multiplying faster than rabbits.  I put a couple of really pretty cochinpullets in with the NN sillkies; can;t wait to see the first generation chicks.
Looks like my khaki pullets are both going to be cockerels. They are very nice and petite.
Cathryn

They are loud, huh?  I don't want to irritate the 'neck next door too much.  Show me photos.  You know I can't resist once I see something................  Would this 'deal' include any white NN Silkies?     Or any more Khaki and/or Chocolate Polish?

Georgia, They are beyond adorable, I had to stop playing with them!  Yes, they are headed for the freezer.  I tried to sell them all but had no takers locally.  Do you want them????  I'll make you a special deal. Cathryn

Re: [CHICKENS-101] ot ducks

oh ok. well today i went out and there was an egg next to the tub of water that they swim in and the other eggs still covered. so i just left them all alone after i marked the other one. is it true that pekins dont sit on a nest? that is what i have read i have read so much that i dont know what to believe with them. i have kept their feed the same and just gave them a bigger thing of water to swim in and they seem to love that. im leaving her alone until the fair and the petting zoo we are doing come up. how do i turn them white again they have alittle bit of black dirt on them.

Well sounds to me like she is starting to nest :-) First attempts
are hit and miss ... if she builds up a stash and starts to sit I'd just

Re: [CHICKENS-101] white chickens

I have a Delaware, a white amerucauna and a white orphington.  Out of all, the Delaware, IMO, is the prettiest of my white birds.

The white chickens I'm "cooking" for now are Shamo and wyandottes. We had cornish before and my son as a junior got best "brassy back white cornish" at a show, Judge wasn't happy as the cornish was the best bird but the brassy was a no-no. He made him best Junior English but I got an ear full. Are silkies even chickens??? According to my Shamo cocks silkies are some sort of an alien being.(they meet at a show and the reaction of the shamo was a scream. You could almost see him thinking,"what in the world is THAT????".) LOL Carolyn

[CHICKENS-101] Best way to cull.

HI Jennifer. That sounds a bit barbaric, the best way Cathryn knows & will brob tell you BUT an easy way that means you do not have to do the nasty deed yourself is take it to a farmer! they know all the quick ways of putting animals out of thier misery. My dh read that if you decise to chop the head off have a bucet of cold water standing close by & holding the fett immerse the body in the water after be-heading & the blood that pumps out after it is done goes in the water & dfoes not make a mess. Of course I would opt for Cathryn's way myself (if I had no choice) Cathryn knows a very easy & I think prob least painful way of doing it. Jane & Co.

[CHICKENS-101] silkie & Cat freind

Oh don't you guys! stop making me lol.
Seriously though the thought of anyone recording me in my back garden with my girls is scary.
This was calmly pointed out by my ds this pm when I was telling him about my next door neighbors phsycho twin girls ( aged about 8) being so weird!
He looked straight across the table at me raised his eye brows & stated " And this coming from a woman who goes running out in the garden saying, oh ! it's raining I better get Hitch in or she'll catch a cold, or Ohh I forgot to let the girls out of the compound I'm 5 mins late they'll be at the gate marching up & down, waiting!" Lol. Jane & Co.

[CHICKENS-101] Re: BARF

Good choice, Laura!  I feed prey model diet to my greyhounds (three - 2 are mine and one foster currently).  It is expensive, but as you've already experienced, well worth it!  When my foster came to me, his coat, teeth and breath were just awful.  Within 24 hours of raw feeding, everything had already improved.  I'll never switch back!
