Re: [CHICKENS-101] Date Raped by bigapplesupply - Gina

That was Georgia that said you need a turner. I don't have one and don't mind turning them. By the time you lock down for the last two days, they don't need turning so the humidity is fine.

[CHICKENS-101] Sick chickens..help!

We seem to have an outbreak of some sort, maybe you can help me figure out what it is and how to treat it? They have watery eyes mainly. One, who is the worst, stretches up her neck every few seconds to breathe it seems. Others are breathing hard from their open beaks. Any ideas?? I went ahead and cleaned/bleached out their waterer and put in some antibiotic, Duromyacin-10.
Some are not showing any symptoms. I started to seperate the sickies from the ones who do not show sign. I have a total of 20 chickens, it seems like about 8 or 9 are definetly infected. Some worse than others. Does it really do any good to seperate them??? They have all been sharing the same wter and food sorce. I figure maybe just treat them all with the Duromyacin water, and not both seperating them, except for the worst ones? I have about 5 in a pen next door away from the rest of the flock, the ones that look the worst.
Anyway... what do you think I should do, what do you think this is, and is it very treatable, or am I fighting a losing battle?
Thanks

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: poison oak

Antibiotics are excreted, not chemically changed; most break down in time.   They leave residues in tissues, thus the egg withdrawal time until the drug breaks down or is excreted. Prescription drugs in water supplies is an on going pollution problem.  I can't imagine why hospitals here have to by law put drugs down the drain.  Cath

Help, An Alien has George is making him write in cell phone!!!
Went back to Fenton yesterday for a check up.  I picked blackberries while there and am still so tired I passed exhaustion.  I showered, came back to my parents, and am just now awake.  But, am contemplating another nap.  Feels good to be in sinus rhythm instead of ventricular and vent/fib.  I'll be able to be weaned off meds in a couple of months too.  Means I'll be to loose weight. Yay! Cath

Hi Cath. Hope U R feeling B'T'R :)

Guess woo

Get styrafoam egg cartons, cut the lids off, soak in hot soapy bleach water for a couple of hours, then air out/dry in the sunshine.  Use new cartons each hatch. The eggs can sit in the clean carton while being turned and while hatching. Cath

LOL No way. The turner is probably made out of Saran wrap and toothpicks. I did some checking around and I can build a unit that I am guaranteed that will control heat and humidity by its self, for less than $20. The turner is about $50 so I will have invested over $100 for Styrofoam and I doubt the turner will  work for Seramas.

The problem is I make only $616 a month on disability (Yeah, I can say how much I make because if someone robs me there more pathetic than I am), I just can't keep dumping money into a pit.

As far as turning, We have a sheet on a Clipboard for turning three times a day, that we check off. I doubt Mrs. Crypt will touch it as she has already stressed that fact.

Still. The last batch of Eggs I am supposed to get next week, this will then sit in the closet for over a year, again, another reason not to spend money.

On the good side, I have had this running for 12 hours at 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ok, you got the Hovabator Thermal Air Flow version.   Ok, now got directly to the GQF site and order yourself the turner.  GQF, that's who makes Hovabator incubators.  Have I mentioned you need the turner?  Otherwise your help mate is gonna be messing with the eggs.  You need the turner so NOBODY opens it.
