Re: [CHICKENS-101] Making Your Own ACV

This is a chicken group... you posted a link to make vinegar...and this is a chicken group...some people use ACV or regular vinegar in their poultry's water dishes.

why would you give them apple cider vinegar? I have put vitamins in their water occasionally and perhaps I should now as on top of introducing the 'babies', the weather this year has been such that some of them had a sort if mini-moult about 6 weeks ago and they now seem to be starting a full moult now, quite late but we have been having a bit of an Indian summer here.

Shannon, I use organo-stim when temps are up and down and up and down in extreme ranges and or I see a symptom of cocci in my chicks.  If I have to use an antibiotic I will follow it up probiotics and vinegar in their water for a day to three if needed.
My friend went to Lucasville and brought me back 5 silkies. :)

Melissa, I'll go look for it in the back posts after I check my emails, ok?  What happened?  An infection that puts you in the hospital is scary and serious?  Are you going to be ok?  Is it clearing up?

I do not use vinegar unless medically necessary.  Clean, fresh water is what my chickens are served, every day. Home made vinegar makes fantastic pickles. A month or so ago I posted a link to an article explaining why vinegar in chicken/poultry water is not a good idea and not good for them.

I haven't done this just yet, I'm planning on starting a big batch
tomorrow saving all the peels and cores from apples destined for apple
sauce and pie filling.  Wish I'd known about this when I was making
many pints of apple butter.

Ordered a Victorio Apple peeler that cores, peels and slices that
works like a charm. Got it from Amazon.com but have absolutely no
economic interest in the company. Just a very satisfied customer so
thought I'd pass it on.

Looks pretty easy to me using organic apples (free for me cause they
are in my orchards). Just requires patience.
