This is exactly how Alex came to be. TWO hens were sitting on the same clutch and then decided 'the heck with this'! and abandoned the nest. The eggs were cold so we tossed them out...only to hear some faint peeping in one! It had a pip and an alive chickie (Alex) inside!  We were frantic about the other eggs but apparently none of them had any life in them. Alex just got 'lucky'! Whew!

She won't fight you for the eggs :-) They might have a better chance
if you do .... what is the worst would be if she goes 26 days then
decides the whole "mother" thing isn't for her and abandons the nest...
it is possible :-( Yes I have had it happen and not just with pekins.

So you may get 1 last trip in before school starts, down to see Melissa?  I'm glad, you need the break.  I would love some White NN's, and any Chocolate and/or Khaki Polish you can spare.  Let me know the cost and I'll send you a check, or I can Pay Pal. 

If you see Melissa more frequently than the rest of us further down, do you want me to send the little blue cage back to her place?  The cage Eva was in.  William is very happy with his hens and I love him but if you want him back it's ok.

If you plan to sell the babies you may have trouble. My rouen ducks nested late. now the babies are 1 month old and im having trouble selling them. People seem to like to buy spring babies better.

[CHICKENS-101] ADMIN : Trimming posts/ pic sizes / sig lines and misc

 

I know for those of you long time members this is just a rehash but we
get many new members all the time ...SO this is for them and those who
need their memories jogged :)

We have fewer rules then most groups but those we have are strictly
enforced.

1) Trim you replies ... leave only the one (1) message you are replying
to ...not 1.5 or 2 just one.
2) Picture sizes should be between 50-100 kb...no more ...if you don't
know how to resize please ask.
3) Signature lines / cards .... these can be no more then 3 lines
total.... this means 3 or less not 4 or whatever.
4) Be respectful in all you write... this is a family forum and as such
no foul ( not fowl ) language will be tolerated and those that flame or
are rude will at the very least be moderated or removed. Write as if it
was a reply to your Mother :-)
5) Off topic posts are allowed but remember to put "OT" in the subject
line and reply privately if way off topic. However religion and
politics are not good subject matters.

Hope yours get busy and mine also! The only dependable chicken we have is two year old Henryetta, a black Australorp. One a day every day, well, rarely misses a day. Moved to new hen house, picked a nest, and got started. Good girl!
