We don't have a choice at this show.  That is the way the show is run.  Since it's a fair, there will be thousands on hands on those cages this week. :-/

[CHICKENS-101] introducing a new, adult chicken

 

hi,
 
it's me again...
 
i am guessing that if you get one new chicken to add to 5 hens and 1 rooster that there is an introduction procedure to use so they don't fight?
 
any help, to once again, avoid chicken disaster, would be very much appreciated.

p.s. we lost all but one guinea fowl.  the whole flock, except that one who thought it was a chicken or something and always stayed with the chickens, wandered away into the scrub weeds, right where the fox family lives.  it is the season to teach the kits how to hunt.  i suspect the hawk family helped, we lost 10 in one day.  we found a few piles of feathers, it was awful.

I also have a white amerucana, white rocks and some pretty amazing white Rhode Islands. Not worried about showing them so they get regular feed with the youghurt milk. Carolyn

We're not camping at the fair.  The Poultry volunteers water & feed all birds, so we can't do much there.  We're not showing any other animals, so we'll just be going back & forth.  The birds aren't judged until Wednesday :-)

LOL!  Our feathered pets are addicting, aren't they?  Blue Boy is still hanging in.  I think I am going to have to look at what to do with a large piece of flesh that died and the skin underneath is growing. Slowly figuring it all out as we go. Cathryn


 

Oh don't you guys! stop making me lol.
Seriously though the thought of anyone recording me in my back garden with my girls is scary.
This was calmly pointed out by my ds this pm when I was telling him about my next door neighbors phsycho twin girls ( aged about 8) being so weird!
He looked straight across the table at me raised his eye brows & stated " And this coming from a woman who goes running out in the garden saying, oh ! it's raining I better get Hitch in or she'll catch a cold, or Ohh I forgot to let the girls out of the compound I'm 5 mins late they'll be at the gate marching up & down, waiting!" Lol. Jane & Co.
