Hee!  Alex doesn't lack for romance. I didn't go in to it for the sake of any tender eyes that might be on this list,  but we're all animal people here and we know that 'where there's a will, there's a way' when it comes to dealing with 'mother nature!   Our little trips to the toy store with Alex for new stuffed animals isn't just because WE like stuffed toys!  Alex has a USE for his "partners"!  And amazingly, we has a definite opinion on them. We really do let him pick out the toy that most intrigues him. And he's picky!  He doesn't like stuffed bears, but the MONKEY gets a work out! Unknowing folks who come to see Alex are so amused when they see him "playing" with his toys. They're horrified of course when I tell them I don't think he's...uh...playing with his toy!
Actually, Alex is very discrete with his antics and seldom gets "in to it" when strangers are here. But he does like NEW toys! He gets tired of the same old ones. Typical male!

Poor guy ..... poopless for 2 hours ....that's cruel punishment :-(
He is no more then a "trophy" rooster .... being paraded around and
shown off. No chance for a little romance .... you should be ashamed.
Don't worry Alex a rescue mission is being planned as we speak ...... :-)

We have always had chickens mainly for eggs and of course they were all very loved and handled. But I never had a total indoor chicken, and I never toted a chicken around with me everywhere I went, either! Alex literally goes everywhere with us. If

Re: [CHICKENS-101] *Hello, everyone! New here!

Hee, hee!  Pete, I can see you are one to be taken with a grain of laying mash!...er....salt!  Don't worry, I have plans for Gina. She will have to earn her keep and eventually become an indentured servant. I'll just tie a rope around her leg so she can't wander off anymore and lay in an extra supply of chocolate Ensure!

[CHICKENS-101] Re: the second and third eggs

Hi Elizabeth:

They almost always lay in the same place. I blocked the coop door to keep them outside in the sun for a day. They started laying outside after that. Then it rained for 2 days so now there laying in siide again. My chicken listen to voice commands "move and point" and they move. "Play Dead" and they shut up very useful in crowded coops in the winter. (Turkeys Peakocks guinie hens gease )

So block them in the coop for 2 days with good ventilation and they will be retrained.

Georgia, it sounds like you are all having a great relaxing time, well, except for you who is busy taking care of chickens!
Mr Basketball sounds like such a funny guy. I hope you can get a pic of him.

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Everyone has arrived in Alabama!

We all wish you were here too, Gina, and I took pictures - of everyone lounging in the living room.  It's 11 am and most of them are still stretched out.  But they are awake, drinking coffee, and chatting.  And all the carriers in the house have been tended to.  I need to count them, just for the record!

I've fed and watered my 27 pen chicks and had a nice foot fight with Mr. Basketball in the main chicken yard.  He is going to MISS me and the bottom of my shoe.  He is one funny roo!  Usually good for about 10 whacks on the shoe per time.  I'll try to get a picture of that before he goes home with Cath.

Re: [CHICKENS-101] chart on wormers and doses

>  I've never seen the brand they were talking about. I saved your notes in my dewormer file. Less is always better   than more when dealing with poisons, especially when less works just as well. Cath

I have been checking the various pigeon websites and what they use is the ivermectin sheep drench to use in drinking water. It is a 0.08% concentration so much weaker than the injectable, a few days ago I bought Iverlux for birds and it seems to be the same product as the sheep drench. On the pigeon site it says to use 8 cc a gallon, that's a really low dose at that concentration. I tried the Iverlux in water, I saw the drops fall to the bottom, but then I mixed it with a spoon and it did not settle out like the injectable does, so it seems to be similar to the  horse product Eqvalan which is not available a this time, some kind of manufacturing problem is what my vet told me.
