Re: [CHICKENS-101] This is not a dead chicken!

Not all our chickens are this tame, either!  Some just flat out don't have the temperament for being handled like this. They have what we call the "Fear-Gene".  I have a really special rooster that I had SUCH high hopes for. He is a GORGEOUS Yokahama/Modern game Bantam cross, and I was hoping to turn him into a major pet since he was so unusual. Not a chance!  He is very fearful, and he's also the bottom of the pecking order, so that doesn't help. I am going to try working with him some more...I can't keep him, and I want to try and make him as special as possible before trying to place him. He is SO unusual. LONG legs..cushion comb...he looks kind alike a Shamo. I'll try to get some pictures of him. But NO WAY would he lie on his back for ya!

I'm sorry you guys, but this dog-gone little hen of my daughters is just so darn funny, I couldn't help sharing these pictures with you all!  Natania is a 7 month old Old English Game Bantam, and she is SO completely spoiled! Melissa can set her on the counter like this, with her little legs sticking straight up in the air, and she will calmly look around, or even doze off. Once she dozed off and almost rolled over and startled herself!
So in case anyone was wondering what we do for fun these days...well...we play with our chickens!
Hee!

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Dewormer question

The fact sheet states one 24 hour day after administering for worminator.  What ever wormer you use, you need to follow the withdraw directions, some are a month and others are 2 weeks.

Hi Kelly, It depends on the de wormer you use, how long the egg withdraw is.  Wish we could buy Combatrin/Worminator here in the USA like people in Australia can.  It is over the counter there and only has 1 day/24 hours, egg withdraw.  I will admit to going to 2-3 days and cooking the eggs for my cats and chickens.
