Hi Valerie,
I only started hatching last year and still make mistakes. My last hatch I drowned several viable keets and one poult by misting their eggs and they had too much fluid.
I have a hatch due this coming weekend. 19 turkey eggs and 21 guinea eggs. I hope the hatch ration is better than 33% (like last time)
I do not use medicated feed, but I do use Sulmet in their water if I see any signs of coccidia.
I don’t vaccinate. I have considered it, but haven’t yet.
Good luck!
I have been selling guinea eggs and I am trading guinea eggs for peafowl eggs this week! I can’t wait to have a few peafowl parading about the farm!

OK. We are expecting our first hatch in a couple of weeks. 6 eggs waiting to hatch. Now, here are my questions.
1- Should I use medicated or non-medicated chick food?
2- Do I need to do any kind of shots?
3- Is there anything else that would be suggested to do or not do? Remember, I have never had chicks before. I know absolutely nothing about them. Lol
Thanks for any help

Thanks Marla
I'll get the zip ties out and keep them handy so I can zip tie the birds I want to butcher.

I'll definitely keep that in mind. I want to be able to roast them.

Many use zip ties. The only caution I've heard is to make them a bit loose but not so big to cause harm, watch to make sure your growing bird doesn't wind up out growing it, and to clip off any remaining length close (like with nail clippers) to keep them from pecking it and pulling it tighter.
Best of luck!
