they wont develop abnormally. In fact they may h

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] HELP... I think I killed my hatching eggs

My first try and I am using an 'old style' used Hova-Bator styrofoam incubator. I had the temp stable at 100 degrees for a half a day before putting my eggs in last night. This morning it read 105. I was very worried and immediately turned it down a quarter turn but had to leave for the day. When I got back the thermometer was at 104. I finally got it back down to 100 but do you think I should go ahead and toss this batch of eggs out and start again? They haven't even been in there for 24 hours yet and I may have killed them already. Will the eggs just not develope or will they develope abnormally into something that I will need to put them down due to defects? If it's the later, I would rather toss them now before they start developing.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Jennie (in CA)

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Hazzards at the feed store

Went to get feed this morning. I had to restrain myself from coming home with more than feed. They still had chicks and ducklings. Two weeks ago I went to pick up feed and my order of a dozen Black Star. Also came home with 6 additional Buttercups.
My last order from Ideal got here Fri. Since I only ordered 12 they were kind enough to send me 13 free chicks that I have no clue what they are. With the little note of "males added for warmth." They are in my bathroom. I have the BS and Cups in a cage on my puter desk. And got a message from a friend yesterday, I have chicks for you!
This is what happens when I decided last year to downsize!

Last week I went over to the local feed store with the Wife to buy some hay. While the lady was supervising loading I went on an explore. Got around to the chickens. Had to stand back as the place was overrun with little people with little boxes. The clerk who, contrary to expectations, did know something about chickens, was busy passing out chicks and trying to answer questions. I got into several conversations about 'egg layers' 'lawn candy' and 'what's a frizzle?' He actually had some. Most people thought it was a breed. Anyway, one thing lead to another and I came home with a box of Silver Sebrights, 6 to be exact. Right now they are house in a parrot cage with a deep bottom. The sit on a table next to my computer where the dog can keep an eye on them. They appear to be close to a week old going by the wing feathers. I don't know why but I have never had to clean butts on chicks as often as I do with these. Including Silkies and OEGs that are about the same size. Anyway it's fun to be back in the game.
