Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Dubbing
I just wanted to weigh in on this....I don't mean to "fuffle any feathers" as I know dubbing became such a hot issue the LAST time it was brought up, the mods had to say no more talk about dubbing! I, too, can't wrap my mind around the "sanity" of dubbing roosters for showing. Just like Boxers, or Pit Bulls, or Dobermans, who have to have their ears and tails cut off because people have become accustomed to seeing them that way. I have Modern Game Bantams. None of my roosters are dubbed. One colony has 3 full grown roosters and 9 hens, and another colony has 2 roosters and 10 hens. All the chickens live in harmony together...there are no fights between the roosters or the hens. The only problem rooster we have is my own beloved house chicken, Alex, who is "Chicken agressive" and will even fight a hen to the death if he gets a chance. Alex is not going to procreate his bad genes! But the other Modern Game roosters are the sweetest, most gentle
creatures anyone could ask for. We've made it a point to breed SWEET, Gentle birds for quite a while. We don't fight chickens or dogs here in the US, so I absolutely don't see any reason why these animals should be subjected to this unecessary and cruel practice just because "someone" says it's the only way the animal can win in a showring. We cut out alot of quality animals that could really be good representatives of their breed by not allowing them to show in their "real" state.
Many Blessings~
