On Dubbing; back when Cock Fighting was sort of "accepted;" the practice of "Dubbing" was started so that the "opposing" bird couldn't peck or tear the comb & blind your bird with blood in his eyes.
In a natural/wild setting; you can allow your birds to co-habit w/out much problem; there will still be fights; but mostly over territory, or mating rights; but vary few will end up fatal; barring serious injury, & the rest of the birds ganging up to kill the hurt bird...
When fighting was being outlawed; I thought of a fairly non-lethal alternative; professional bird fighters always have "Sparring, or boxing" gloves so they can practice spar their birds when training them; why not allow the birds in the ring to "exhibition" fight & declare the winner as when one bird is no longer able to continue; but is still alive; just as in modern boxing????? It would allow for the Game Bird enthusiasts to continue their sport; yet allow that the birds were not killed for the sake of said sport...
