See if you can find some crates that sodas come in. They are like the milk crates but the right height!

I use the plastic "milk crate" type things. You can get them at Walmart and since they are so tall just use a hack saw and cut then down so they are about a foot high and set the waterer on this. Since it is open weave the water and shavings fall through and don't build up. They are easy to spray down when they do get dirty.
